If you’re dealing with bone or joint pain, you’re not alone. In fact, thousands of Australians suffer from some form of bone or joint disease. Here are some things you need to know about these conditions.

How it’s caused

Bone and joint diseases can be caused by a variety of factors, including injury, infection, inflammation and genetics. They can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including pain, stiffness, swelling and deformity.

Treatments

Bone and joint diseases can often be treated with medications, physical therapy or surgery.

In some cases, however, the conditions may be chronic and require lifelong management.

Exercise to prevent bone & joint diseases

There are many things you can do to keep your bones and joints healthy. Exercise is one of the best ways to prevent bone and joint disease. Here are some tips for exercises that can help:

  • Weight-bearing exercise: This type of exercise helps to keep bones strong by working against gravity. Walking, running, stair climbing tennis, and dancing are all good examples of weight-bearing exercise.
  • Resistance exercise: This type of exercise works muscles and bones by making them work against a force, like weights or resistance bands. Strength training is a good example of resistance exercise.
  • Range-of-motion exercises: These types of exercises help maintain flexibility in your joints. stretching, yoga, and Tai Chi are all good examples of range-of-motion exercises.

If you have bone or joint disease, it’s important to talk to your doctor before starting any new exercise program. They can help you find the right type and amount of exercise for your situation. And remember, even a little bit of exercise is better than none at all!

Speak to your doctor

If you think you may have a bone or joint disease, don’t hesitate to see your doctor for a diagnosis. Early treatment can often improve the prognosis and help prevent complications.
