VALE Lion Allan Hofmann

Allan Hofmann 3
Lion Allan Hofmann from the Lions Club of Toowoomba Wilsonton in District 201Q3

Lion Allan was a Charter member of the Lions Club of Toowoomba/ Wilsonton Inc. in 1978, and in 1980 he became the Miss Personality Chairman of the then Lions Kidney & Medical Research Foundation. This grew to be his passion in Lions and this passion partnered with gardening and his family, meant that Lion Allan led a full life. He was an accomplished musician and played at many of the local dances where he met Lions Lady Margaret. Both Lion Allan and Lions lady Margaret supported all Lions Projects, but the Miss Personality Quest was his main passion. Lion Allan and Margaret’s family was completed with the birth of a son and 2 daughters and most of their life was spent in Toowoomba.

He joined Queensland Rail as a lad and rose in the ranks until he became the livestock Clerk for all South West Queensland.  Lion Allan became President of the Club in 1981 and again in 1983. He was also Miss Personality Chairman in 1989-1990, with entrant Peggy Bell who went on to be the highest fundraiser for that year. The Lions Club of Toowoomba Wilsonton Inc bestowed life membership on Lion Allan in 1995 and it was well deserved because of Lion Allan’s love of life and his need to help his community and fellow man.

Lion Allan took time away from Lions to nurse Lions Lady Margaret when her health failed and after her passing was content to be retired and looking after his garden. Lion Allan and Lion Wayne Flour were instrumental in the planting and nurturing of the beautiful gardens around the Wilsonton Lions Catering Railway Van at Spring Bluff Railway Station, renowned for its beautiful gardens. This was another project of our Club that helped attract visitors to Toowoomba during, before and after the Carnival of Flowers in September each year.

Lion Allan spent his twilight years in the Symes Thorpe home in Toowoomba and was proud to be a Lion. He wore his Lions Regalia proudly on his sports coat for all to see.

The Wilsonton Lions would like to donate $100 to Lions Medical Research Foundation in memory of our deceased member. We firmly believe he will be happily planning a new garden bed for God at this very moment.
