In October last year, the University of Queensland held their 9th annual International Postgraduate Symposium which provides postgraduate students in biomedical sciences with an outstanding opportunity to present their research, listen to expert presentations and discuss their research with students and distinguished researchers from acclaimed international universities. Students were able to attend presentations and network with international guests from the University of Otago (NZ), Oxford University (UK), Uppsala University (Sweden), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany) and Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health (China).
At the symposium, two of Dr Carlos Salomon’s PhD students received awards. Miss Shayna Sharma and Miss Soumya Nair received awards for best oral presentations in Biomedical Science. Soumya presented her work on therapeutic target identification in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and Shayna presented her work on an early detection biomarker in ovarian cancer. Congratulations to Shayna and Soumya.
