Raewyn Andersen Memorial Golf Day
On Tuesday 20 March, the Lions Club of Sanctuary Cove Hope Island held the 2nd Annual Raewyn Andersen Memorial Golf Day at the Palms Golf Course, Sanctuary Cove. Registration for the event was from 11.00am with a shotgun tee off at 12.00 midday with Golfers playing a 4 Ball Ambrose Competition. Once golf was done and dusted, everyone enjoyed dinner at the Sanctuary Cove Rec Club where prizes were awarded, and raffles and auctions contributed to the fundraising effort.
Raewyn Andersen was a charter member of the Lions Club of Sanctuary Cove, avid golfer and a character of the Cove. Everyone knew Raewyn. She was also a great supporter of Lions Medical Research Foundation and in 2012, at the age of 67 was an entrant in the Qld and Northern NSW Lions Medical Research Personality Quest raising thousands of dollars for medical research.
Sadly, Raewyn passed away two years ago after a relatively short time from an aggressive cancer. In her memory, her club agreed to hold an annual charity golf day with 50% of the proceeds going to her favourite charity, Lions Medical Research Foundation, and the other half to a recognized charity of their choice.
In 2017 the event was a great success raising $7,500 which was donated to a local children’s charity and Lions Medical Research Foundation. In 2018, the event attracted great support from the local community and the Club was able to raise almost double last year’s amount – again, half will go to Lions Medical Research Foundation.
Sincerest thanks to the Lions Club of Sanctuary Cove Hope Island. Their commitment and dedication to honouring a charter member of their Club while fundraising for worthy causes, is exceptional.
