Fact, Fashion, Fun and Food..
Lions Club of Cairns Barrier Reef held a fundraiser in support of Lions Medical Research Foundation on Saturday 9 September. The club promised a great afternoon of Fact, Fashion, Fun and Food and they delivered!!
Dr Carlos Salomon, one of 3 researchers currently funded by the Foundation was invited as guest speaker and his presentation was both informative and entertaining. He talked a little about himself, where he came from, how he arrived in Australia and how Lions Medical Research Foundation came to fund his research. He gave some insights into how he and his research team are working hard on finding an early indicator and a treatment that will be more effective for ovarian cancer. With lots of questions from the ladies attending the event, Carlos kindly stayed for discussion and to answer questions at the end of his presentation. Then it was time for the fashion parade with fashions from W.Lane. Raffle draws followed with fabulous prizes donated by numerous Cairns Businesses, and of course a delicious high tea prepared by Sheridan Plaza hotel
In total $5000 was raised in support of the Foundation through ticket sales to the event and raffle sales on the day. The club also works from July to early September each year organising BBQs for visitors and guests at Lake Placid Tourist Park, and this year all those funds went to Lions Medical Research Foundation.
Jo Lynes, one of the event organisers said “It was fantastic to have Carlos attend our event, and we learnt so much about his pioneering research. All in all, it was a wonderful day and of course we are delighted as a club to be able to support the Foundation in this way”
And our sincere thanks to all the organisers and the Lions Club of Cairns Barrier Reef for their efforts in fundraising for the Foundation
