Brain Awareness Week
This week is Brain Awareness Week and LMRF Researcher Dr Nadeeka Dissanayaka has had much pleasure in hosting two international experts in Parkinson’s disease from the USA.
Professor Zoltan Mari and Associate Professor Gregory Pontone have been visiting the Neuro Mental Health Unit at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR).
Prof Zoltan Mari is based in Las Vegas and is a Consultant Neurologist and Director of the Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and Movement Disorders Program at Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health (CCLRCBH); and A/Prof Gregory Pontone is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Director of Neuropsychiatry in the Parkinson’s disease program at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore.
There has been a series of very stimulating seminars across Brisbane for the past week focused on neuroprotective and disease modifying treatments for PD, neuroimaging in PD and related disorders, and cognitive and psychiatric disorders in PD.
These seminars have certainly increased participants’ knowledge of Parkinson’s disease, and have also increased awareness of PD during Brain Awareness Week.
While commenting on the activities of this week, Nadeeka said “While this is an excellent example of how high quality research from our unit has resulted in attracting international attention, it also highlights how the generous support from Lions has made it possible to generate such high impact and important research. Thank you to our visitors and thank you Lions.”
