Since it began in 1963, Lions Medical Research Foundation has supported internationally recognized medical research across diverse fields by funding early career biomedical scientists.
The Foundation, with support from its constituent members – Lions Clubs of Queensland and Northern New South Wales - supports our researchers to make medical discoveries that benefit all Australians. Medical research offers hope and creates opportunities for everyone to live healthier and longer lives.
Over many years, the Foundation has provided much needed and important funding into health and cancer research that has assisted greatly in the development of cures and treatments. Through research, modern medicine enjoys a greater understanding of disease, its causes, detection, prevention and treatments.
Past researchers have conducted research in a variety of fields including: Parkinson's Disease, kidney disease, Asthma, Urodynamics, Anti-venom, Immunology, Ophthalmology, Toxicology, Perinatal, Schizophrenia, Diabetes, Skin Cancer, Cord Blood, In-vitro Corneal Transplant, Cancer therapies, bone and joint disease and many others.
Lions Medical Research Foundation has a long history of supporting researchers across diverse fields. The research fellowships are typically offered for a three-year period and are intended for biomedical researchers within 10 years of their PhDs.
Applicants must be an Australian citizen or have Australian residency for the duration of the fellowship. The work to be conducted must be carried out in the state of Queensland at a University Teaching/Research Hospital, medical research institute or other approved research facilities.
Future fellowships have yet to be announced but once applications are open, the website will be updated with timelines and details, and interested parties will be advised by email.
